Program Fee: $1500 (covers all meals, accommodation, transportation, project costs, and group cultural/ sightseeing expenses; airfare not included)

Program Description:
Vihiga is a beautiful area located in western Kenya.  Participants must arrive in Nairobi Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (IATA: NBO) and then fly into Kisumu International Airport (IATA: KIS).  Participants will visit several of Vihiga's rural villages, including Kakamega, Khatikala, Maragoli, and Mbale. On this expedition,  participants will be able to perform service such as:
  • Providing health care and/or education and training working with the Rhembe Community Heath Volunteers Services Clinic
  • Participating in Reforestation projects in the Kakamega Forest, a beautiful tropical rainforest in western Kenya
  • Treating children at De-jigger clinics
  • Working in the Kigima Resource Centre
  • Assisting with an international Child Injury Prevention research project
  • Teaching in the local schools
  • Giving service at the Babies in Crisis Orphanage 
  • Providing skills training (computers, business/marketing, graphic design, gardening, construction, etc.) Participants will also have the opportunity to be involved in cultural exchange activities, such as cooking, dancing, singing and sports, with their host families.

Expeditions include educational, environmental and cultural excursions during the evenings and weekends. This may include trips to the Equator Line, Nairobi National Park, the David Sheldrick Wildlife Foundation, Lake Nakuru National Park, the Bomas Cultural Center, a visit to the village where President Obama's father lived, or a Nairobi City Tour.

Participants will stay in a hostel located in Vihiga.  The hostel has indoor plumbing, running water, and electricity.
