Program Fee: $1,250 (covers all meals, hostel accommodations, transportation, project costs, and group cultural/ sightseeing expenses; airfare not included). A $500 non-refundable deposit must be paid two months prior to trip departure. The full payment (the remaining $750) is due one month prior to departure.

Participants must arrive at Nairobi Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (IATA: NBO) and then fly into Kisumu International Airport (IATA: KIS).  

Participants will stay in Sosa Cottages. 

Please make sure that you read and follow the US State Department's Travel Advisories and Recommendations for Kenya.

Volunteers are required to purchase their own travel insurance.  

Vihiga is a beautiful area located in western Kenya.  Participants may visit several of Vihiga's rural villages, including Kakamega, Khatikala, Maragoli, and Mbale. On this expedition,  participants will be able to perform service such as:

• Providing health care and/or education and training working with the Rhembe Community Heath Volunteers Services Clinic
• Brighten up the rooms of the Shangilia Children's home by painting murals on the walls
• Make porridge and feed youngest children at the Gimomi Primary School and Kivagala Primary School
• Treating children at de-jigger clinics
• Playing games, do puzzles, and read with children in the Serve a Village Resource Centre 
• Providing skills training (computers, business/marketing, graphic design, gardening, construction, etc.) at the Serve a Village Resource Centre 

Participants will also have the opportunity to be involved in cultural exchange activities, such as cooking, dancing, singing and sports, with local individuals. Participants may also attend dance performances, African storytelling events, or learn how to make African traditional crafts and food.

Expeditions in the evenings and weekends may include trips to the Lake Victoria, Impala Sanctuary, Harambee Open Market,  Mbale Open Market, the Equator line, and Musungutii Village ancestral caves.
